General

What is InfoCrawler?
InfoCrawler is a search engine that runs on a server inside your company. Its primary function is to index various types of documents stored on your servers to allow users to instantly find the information they are looking for. It allows better management of the huge volume of documents found within the company’s internal networks (servers, workstations), intranets, portals, internal Web sites and even on the Internet.

Who should use InfoCrawler?
Businesses of all sizes (small and mid-size enterprises, organizations and departments of all types, educational institutions and government agencies) will benefit from InfoCrawler. Organizations looking for a software application that promises instant access to disseminated information, high performance, uncompromised security and unparalleled accuracy at low cost — and all with a minimal IT investment — should use InfoCrawler.

Which key features characterize InfoCrawler?
InfoCrawler is powerful, multi-platform, and distributed. This allows very flexible functions such as:
   + Steady control of the new, modified or deleted files on all file servers of your company;
+ Real-time indexing, without query interruption.

The combination of indexed content freshness and our advanced language processing and linguistic analysis technologies provides unparalleled relevance.

Furthermore, installation and integration are so easy that most companies are up and running within a few minutes.

InfoCrawler also offers useful features for users: query spelling correction, extensive Advanced Search page and customizable search results page, to name but a few.

Is InfoCrawler more affordable than other enterprise search solutions?
Yes, it is. We decided to make its search server application accessible to all companies and organizations by offering a full-featured of InfoCrawler free of charge without any expiry date or document count limit.

If, however, your needs includes more documents formats and more powerful indexing features, you can acquire a software license of InfoCrawler Pro at a very competitive price.

What is the difference between InfoCrawler Lite and InfoCrawler Pro ?
The difference between them is the indexing engine, the one used by InfoCrawler Pro handles more document formats (more than 240), does automatic classification, and has more advanced indexing capabilities like proximity searching, result list clustering.

InfoCrawler Lite can index only html, text, and excel documents.

Is a trial version of InfoCrawler available?
Instead of offering a time-limited or a documents-limit trial version of InfoCrawler like our competitors do, we are proud to offer a totally free version without expiry date and without documents count limits. This free version includes all features, the only difference between the Lite version and the Pro version is in the indexing engine.

Don't just take our word for it: install and use the program as you like and see its numerous features in action. See for yourself how we can better fulfill your needs.

What if I need assistance during installation or any subsequent technical support?
The InfoCrawler Support Web Site is always available for installation or other technical problems. It is filled with documentation, and other useful information. User Features

How can I refine queries?
InfoCrawler offers several possibilities for refining a query. Here are a few methods:

  * Using Boolean operators, AND, OR, and NOT
  * Searching for an exact phrase with quotation marks
  * Searching for words in close proximity (NEAR)
  * Using parentheses to nest queries
  * Searching for documents according to specific criteria. For example, searching for a document written in a certain language or on a specific date
  * Modifying the selection of collections
  * Searching through the user-friendly Advanced Search page

Can I use document properties, such as the author of a document, to search for documents?
Yes. InfoCrawler can look for tags, such as the author tag, in Microsoft Office documents, PDF documents or emails and meta tags in HTML files. The administrator can also add tags, or metadata, to have them indexed as custom search fields. The main search fields are: date, file type, title and subject.

Does InfoCrawler generate document summaries?
Yes. Using advanced statistical and linguistic algorithms, InfoCrawler extracts the key concepts and then generates an accurate summary of the original document.
